globalDESIGN Show Returns to it's Most Successful Venue ~
Philadelphia in February 2005

The Jeweler's Resource announced that globalDESIGN, the international studio jeweler showcase that features 24 of the world's best designers during the fine craft market in February, will return in 2005 to its new home in Philadelphia at the Marriott.
Last year, the show moved from its earlier venue in Baltimore to Philadelphia where the weekend date pattern and better hotel amenities appealed to buyers and exhibitors alike. globalDESIGN is concurrent with, but independent from, The Buyer's Market of American Craft, and offers longer show hours before and some time after the other show, making a visit there especially convenient for those retail buyers who appreciate and sell the best in designer jewelry. Last year, hundreds of retailers took advantage of the timing to do business with many non-American and American designers whom they would not be able to see otherwise. For a few globalDESIGN exhibitors this is their only U.S. exhibition.
globalDESIGN will be presented February 18 - 20 in the third floor meeting suites of the Philadelphia Marriott hotel which is connected by a convenient walkway to the Buyer's Market show. Unlike mamy larger shows, globalDESIGN restricts its size to some two dozen designers -- including such notables as Michael Zobel, Alex Sepkus, Zoltan David, Gellner, Pedro Boregaard, Janis Kerman and Gurhan -- and fosters a relaxed, low pressure and somewhat pampered atmosphere for retailers. A light breakfast is offered in the morning and wine and cheese are available in the afternoon in the show's elegant, salon-like atmosphere. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Further information will be posted at the show's website -- www.globalDESIGNshow.com -- as it becomes available in the near future. Those desiring more immediate information can contact Cindy Edelstein, show director, at 914-738-8485.

The International Designer Jewelry Showcase
Presented in February by the Jeweler's Resource Bureau
At the Hyatt Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore

Pelham Manor, NY - After a wildly successful launch in 2001, globalDESIGN will celebrate it's second showcase in February 2002 at the Hyatt Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD, from Tuesday Feb. 19 to Thursday, Feb. 21. globalDESIGN is a jewelry show that is noted for the quality of its exhibitors -- a select group of the finest designers from around the world -- and the elegant salon setting in which they show their work.

Demand for exhibition space has caused the show to outgrow the luxury suites that housed last year's event, so this year globalDESIGN will occupy all of the event suites on the third floor of the hotel. Despite the new, larger accommodations, the show will retain the intimate atmosphere that gives buyers a relaxed, luxurious atmosphere in which to discover the jewelry. Joining last year's select group of talent will be Ross Coppelman , Richard Kimball, Pedro Boregaard, Brian Sholdt and Zoltan David from the United States, Leo DeVroomen from England, Lina Fanourakis from Greece, Stephen Greenstein from France and Gellner and Kubik from Germany. Also new to the show this year will be an exhibition and sale by renowned book dealer Charon Kransen who specializes in rare and unusual design books covering a wide swathe of jewelry, design and art topics that are of interest to fine art jewelers and jewelry lovers. Another very popular category of publication that he offers for sale is his collection of catalogs from hundreds of jewelry shows across Europe and beyond.

Making a return appearance with globalDESIGN is fine gem dealer James Alger. "We have shown in a suite at the hotel for several years with a lot of success," says Alger, "and now we're thrilled to be affiliated with the artists of globalDESIGN. It's a perfect match for all concerned. The combination of terrific designers and fantastic gems gives retailers added reason to come to the Hyatt during their trip to Baltimore."

The participants of globalDESIGN 2002 are based in Europe, Canada and the United States and represent some of the best of the artform. They include such luminaries as Michael Zobel (Germany), Susan Helmich (USA), Wilhelm Buchert and Ute Büge (Germany), Steven Kretchmer (USA), Janis Kerman (Canada), Diana Heimann (USA), Christo Kiffer (Brazil), Alishan (USA), Jacob Snow (USA), Karl Benz (Japan), Tom and Jutta Munsteiner (Germany), Alex Sepkus (USA), and Carol Ackerman (USA).

Cindy Edelstein, president of the Jeweler's Resource Bureau, the company presenting globalDESIGN 2002, says that the show's goal is "to introduce this level of international talent to the diverse world of gallery and store owners who come to Baltimore each February for the fine American art jewelry and crafts that are on display then."

"Buyers can come to our gallery-like setting and have breakfast in the morning or cocktails in the afternoon while they meet the artists and view their collections," says Edelstein. "We've designed a comfortable working environment for the buyers and I expect it will again be quite a social scene," she adds.

"Last year was a tremendous success for all concerned," continues Edelstein. "The buyers loved the atmosphere and found it very relaxing and an easy way to work. They were also thrilled to have access to such an array of talent; many retailers and designers had never had the chance to meet such famous industry notables as Michael Zobel, Alex Sepkus and Tom Munsteiner. It was an electrifying atmosphere."

Press and designer jewelry lovers are welcome to visit during the three-day show. Open to the trade only.

A New International Designer Jewelry Showcase
Debuts to Great Acclaim
Presented in February by the Jeweler's Resource Bureau
At the Hyatt Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore

Pelham Manor, NY - The first edition of globalDESIGN, a new jewelry trade show based on a new format, was held in Baltimore in February and was declared a rousing success by organizers and participants alike.

"Trying out a new concept was definitely a risk for all of us, particularly for those designers who were new to this market," declared Cindy Edelstein, president of the Jeweler's Resource Bureau, the company that presented globalDESIGN 2001. "But it sure paid off," she said, adding "We had wanted to introduce this level of international talent to the diverse world of gallery and store owners who come to Baltimore each February for the fine art jewelry and crafts that are on display then. And it worked beautifully. It was a natural fit."

Fifteen designers participated in this first edition of globalDESIGN. They were Michael Zobel (Germany), Susan Helmich (USA), Wilhelm Buchert & Ute Büge (Germany), Alex Sepkus (USA), Janis Kerman (Canada), Diana Heimann (USA), Alishan (USA), Alexandria Moseley (USA and UK), Carol Ackerman (USA), Christo Kiffer (Brazil), Steven Kretchmer (USA), Jacob Snow (USA), Coleman Douglas Pearls (UK), Karl Benz (Japan), Tom Munsteiner and this year's winner of the JA Newcomer of the Year Award, Jutta Munsteiner (Germany).

They represented some of the best of the artform. "It's rare for so many of the world's best to be together in such a small, accessible exhibition," said Edelstein.

The show was unique for a number of reasons. To begin with, it was intentionally limited in size. Secondly, it featured only the best internationally-ranked designers. And perhaps the most notably unique feature was that it was held in an informal, relaxed and elegant salon-style setting. The show ran February 20 to 22 in several of the luxury suites in the Hyatt Hotel in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

An added luxury was the complimentary breakfast in the morning and wine, soft drinks and hors d'oevres throughout the rest of the day for the visitors. "Our goal was to offer a comfortable working environment for the buyers, and by all accounts, we succeeded," says Edelstein.
