We're Not Kidding! This Set of Rings is Literally Out of This World.

US Astronaut John L. Phillips has taken this set of wedding bands designed by Albuquerque artist M. M. Rogers into orbit 266 miles above the Earth. The rings were specially made for the 25th wedding anniversary of Dr. Phillips and his wife Laura, and were sent in advance to the International Space Station aboard a cargo spaceship. Dr. Phillips himself arrived at the International Space Station on April 17th with the Expedition 11 crew, and will spend six months aboard the station serving as the craft's Science Officer and Flight Engineer. To date the rings, which are traveling aboard ship at 17,500 mph, have gone more than 42,000,000 miles. The handmade sterling silver and 14K gold set is embossed with a sine wave design which Rogers says represents “harmony, balance, and continuity.” Lots more information about the rings, the astronaut and the designer is available here.
The M. M. Rogers line will be available for viewing at the upcoming JCK ~ Las Vegas show at booth # 43053 in the StyleMakers pavilion on the first level.

Jeanne Johngren Brings a Breath of Spring and New Beginnings to Her Debut at the Upcoming JA Show

Jeanne Johngren's peridot Heirloom bracelet is the color of nature and new beginnings. It's the perfect choice to set off her new begining in the fine jewelry trade with the launch of her eponymous line at the upcoming JA Show in New York City. After years of success in the film industry she is channeling her creativity into jewelry. This collection highlights her sensitive use of color, balance and scale. She plays with multiple hues of harmonious colors and mixes in complementary shapes and sizes to create cluster jewels that stand out from the pack. Her green story includes spring green peridot, pure green tsavorite garnet, forest green tourmaline and earthy vessonite mixed with freshwater pearls and 18K gold beads as counterpoint. JJD pieces display enticing color harmonies combined with 18K gold and gold chain -- to satisfy the most discerning jewelry collector. Her pieces are owned by celebrities such as Brittany Murphy and Elisabeth Roehm and are regularly lent out to Hollywood stylists. Michou, Known for High-Style Silver, Brings Spring Green Accents to New Cuffs

Cuffs have been a star of the catwalks for the past two seasons so it's no surprise that they now take center stage in the 2005 collection of jewelry designer Michele Sonner of Michou. She is famous for interpreting high-end trends into fine jewelry for the everyday wearer so this season her line features, cuffs, lots of green gems and finely wrought details that denote expert craftsmanship. Michou's newest Eucalyptus Cuff features a new look in silver achieved by putting fine silver over sterling and texturing it to get a unique pearlescent finish reminiscent of mother of pearl. The silver is then framed with 22k gold vermeil wire and embellished with nephrite jade, faceted peridot and peridot cabochons. The result is a handcrafted, museum-quality work of art that can be worn with many types of ensembles and is especially resonant with this year's hot color: green.
