Niche Award
The NICHE Awards competition celebrates excellence and motivation in American and Canadian craft. It is open to any professional craft artist over the age of 21 who is actively involved in the design and production of craftwork supplied to galleries and craft stores. The competition has both a professional and a student component.

who's eligible: Professional program: Any professional craft artist over age 21 residing in the United States or Canada who is actively involved in the design and production of craftwork supplied to galleries and craft stores. Student program: any undergraduate or graduate craft artist residing in the United States or Canada.
rules: Submitted work must have been produced or introduced after August 31, 2007, to be eligible. Work previously submitted to the NICHE Awards may not be resubmitted. See website for further guidelines.
submit: Up to three slides showing a single piece in its entirety (no detail shots) and an official certification form and entry form supplied by the sponsor. Check with the sponsor about this as the organization has made several changes this year. For example, it has also announced that it reserves the right to cancel or merge categories that do not accrue an appropriate number of applications.
rules: Entries must be submitted by the artist, not in the name of a company. The application fee is $35. (The student fee is $15.) Exhibitors at the 2009 Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft receive a reduced rate of $15. Slides are not returnable.
winners announced/publicized: Professional and student finalists are notified in November and December, respectively, and their names are released to the press in December. Finalists have the opportunity to display their work at the Buyers Market of American Craft in Philadelphia where the winners are announced in a ceremony February, 2009 and the work is exposed to thousands of buyers from across the country. Professional finalists are featured in the Winter issue of NICHE magazine. Student finalists are featured in the Spring issue of NICHE magazine.
